Air changes per hour (ACH) as the name suggests, is a measure of how quickly a room’s air is purified by introducing more clean air –the more technical term for this is dilution ventilation. Increasing ACH reduces occupant exposure to airborne pathogens. This is the same principle recommended by the CDC for infection control in Healthcare facilities. In fact, we’ve been helping facilities meet that very guideline for decades.
Decreasing the residence time of airborne particles can substantially reduce the risk of inhaling a dangerous dose of pathogens or pollutants. To reduce residence time, powerful and rapid filtration is needed. But in a world where the sources of dangerous particles are endless and unpredictable, filtration must also be continuous. It depends on how it’s used. It is well established that UVC is highly effective at inactivating microorganisms by damaging their DNA, and so stopping replication. It’s easy to plug a few UVC bulbs in a box and roll it into a room. It’s much harder to ensure they are reliably disinfecting. SureUVC (Safe Ultraviolet Radiation Exposure) exposes airborne pathogens (not humans) to high-intensity UVC energy at extremely close distances.
